Few mountain views of this era carry color as rich as this photochrom of the Teton Range, whose jagged peaks stand out against a sky the record associates with sunrise or sunset. The photochrom process, developed in Switzerland, transferred a black-and-white photograph onto a series of lithographic stones, with each stone inked in a different color to build the final image. The Detroit Publishing Company brought the method to the United States and sold such views as souvenirs to travelers, many of whom reached Yellowstone by rail. The Teton Range straddles the border of Wyoming and Idaho, so the subject tags on this print list both states.
