The Grand Teton, the highest peak in the Teton Range, appears here as part of an 1883 journey through Yellowstone and northwestern Wyoming by President Chester A. Arthur. The album this print comes from pairs scenic views with photographs of the traveling party and copies of the Associated Press dispatches sent while the group was on the road, so the image belongs to a documented tour. Albumen printing was the standard photographic process of the 1880s, so the print also reflects the technology of its moment.
