Few fair posters of the period name their town as plainly as this one, announcing the ninth annual New England Fair at Lowell, Massachusetts, over four days in early September 1872. Lowell's river-powered textile mills made it one of the busiest industrial cities in the country, and regional fairs like this drew farmers, manufacturers and townspeople to see livestock, machinery and household goods. The color lithograph was drawn by D. Drummond and printed by Charles H. Crosby & Co. of Boston.
