The title gives the sitter as Stanley H. Kunz, though the "Ill." abbreviation is unexplained and the caption is unverified. The image survives as a glass negative, a format common among commercial studios in the early twentieth century before flexible film took over. It was a 1947 gift from Herbert A. French and belongs to the National Photo Company Collection, a Washington, D.C. firm active in those decades. Streaks and blemishes on the glass reflect natural deterioration of the original coatings.
