Earl Moore was a right-handed pitcher for the Philadelphia National League club, and this glass negative from the Bain News Service catches him in the ballpark's everyday world, which is what sets it apart from the team portraits that usually survive from the period. Bain's company supplied newspapers and magazines with fast news photos, so its negatives often captured players for a single day's story rather than a posed group. Moore pitched for Philadelphia in the early 1910s, a stretch when the club was struggling in the standings and the Phillies were still playing at the old Baker Bowl. The 1910 date on the record comes from later research by the Society for American Baseball Research, so it is worth reading as an estimate.
