The Exposition Building was the home of the Western Pennsylvania Exposition, a long-running industrial fair that gave Pittsburgh manufacturers and tradesmen a regular public showcase. This 8 by 10 inch glass negative, made between 1900 and 1910, is tagged with the subjects of construction and exhibitions, which points to the building itself and the trades involved in it. The Detroit Publishing Company, which issued views of American cities and landscapes in the early 1900s, produced the negative, and its survival in a Colorado collection reflects how widely the company's images circulated. The plate offers a useful glimpse of how Pittsburgh presented its industry to the public before World War I.
