A 1936 Los Angeles production of George Bernard Shaw's *The Devil's Disciple* is the subject of this silkscreen poster. Shaw wrote the play in 1897 and called it a melodrama, and its plot follows a rebellious New Englander who takes the place of a condemned minister during the American Revolution. The Federal theater Project, a New Deal program run under the Works Progress Administration, staged plays like this one for low-priced audiences, and its posters, printed in flat, bold colors, were meant to draw crowds to the theater.
