This 1936 silkscreen poster advertises Friedrich Schiller's *Mary Stuart*, directed by Jerome Coray, and its subject headings tie the production to the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Schiller wrote the play in 1800 around the rivalry between Mary, Queen of Scots, and Elizabeth I of England, and it remained a staple of European theater. The silkscreen method, which Works Progress Administration poster units used to build bold blocks of flat color, gives the design its crisp, graphic look. A date stamp on the back reads July 3, 1936, which places it within the Federal theater Project's active years.
