Two numbered sheets make up this set, titled *Cris de Paris et moeurs populaires*, which translates as "Cries of Paris and popular customs." The shelflist card links the work to the name Lemercier, a Paris lithographic firm active through much of the nineteenth century, though that attribution is unverified and the record gives no date. The "cries of Paris" genre showed street vendors hawking food, goods and services, and such series were popular with buyers who wanted a record of the city's everyday commerce. Viewers today value these sheets for their view of ordinary Parisian street life and its working people.
