This engraving shows the city of Paris as seen from the direction of the Porte de la Conférence, one of the gates in the city's western walls, and its French title, "Veüe et perspective," promises a view drawn in perspective. Its date is unrecorded, and the record places it in the seventeenth century. Views like this were widely sold in that period, when Paris was growing fast and its skyline, gates and riverfront were changing. Engravers such as Aveline, Perelle, Mariette and Israel produced many such prints, and this one is preserved in the John D. Batchelder Collection at the Library of Congress.
