Its headline promises a "Great Ethnological Congress of Curious People," the feature that sets this poster apart from many other circus bills of its day. Shows of the 1890s often presented people from distant lands as attractions, and this lithograph puts that practice front and center. The show grew out of an 1881 merger and kept P.T. Barnum's name even after his death in 1891. The poster was printed by the Strobridge Lithographing Company, a Cincinnati firm known for bold, colorful circus bills of the era.
