The elephants take center stage in this Barnum and Bailey poster, a sectional view of the great double menagerie holding a herd of 24 performing elephants alongside rare wild beasts. The show grew out of the partnership of P. T. Barnum and James A. Bailey, and its advertising leaned on scale, as the title's boast of being the world's grandest and largest suggests. The Strobridge Lithographing Company of Cincinnati printed the color lithograph, and cutaway views like this let audiences glimpse the whole menagerie at once.
