Billed as the "female Hercules" and "strongest woman on Earth," Madame Yucca is the star of this poster, which promotes the combined Adam Forepaugh and Sells Brothers circus. Strongman and strongwoman acts drew large crowds to 1890s touring shows, and the lifting feats were sold as much through posters like this as through the performances. The sheet is a chromolithograph, built from separate stone impressions to produce its bold colors, and it was issued by the Courier Litho. Company of Buffalo, New York, one of several firms that supplied circus advertising to traveling shows of the period.
