What sets this negative apart is its subject, a full-length view of Lincoln, though the title comes from unverified notes the National Photo Company wrote on the sleeve, so the figure may be a statue or a costumed performer. The company was a Washington, D.C., commercial studio that sold views of the capital's sights in the early twentieth century, and Lincoln's memorial, dedicated in 1922, made him a natural subject for that trade. The negative is on safety film, a less flammable replacement for nitrate, and it shows streaks and blemishes from deterioration of its coatings. Herbert A. French gave it to the Library of Congress in 1947.
