Warrensburgh, in the Warren County foothills of the Adirondacks, was a small village in 1891 built along the Schroon River. Its economy rested on the surrounding forests and the streams that ran through them, with lumbering, tanning, and the work of local mills supplying much of the employment. The Adirondack Railway, reaching north toward North Creek, tied the village to the wider markets of the Hudson Valley and Glens Falls, and it also carried summer visitors who came to the mountains and nearby Lake George for fresh air and fishing. Residents of the period would have known the place as a gateway to the wilderness, a community where the working rhythms of the woods and river shaped daily life.
