This 1929 view shows a Washington, D.C., hospital that the catalog record identifies only tentatively, with a question mark after the name "D.C. General," so the exact institution should be treated as uncertain. The print was made from a negative and printed again in the 1970s, and it comes from the James M. Goode Collection, which documents the city's architecture. In the 1920s, the District's public hospitals served large numbers of low-income residents, and many were built as long brick blocks with wide windows and porches, designs meant to bring in light and air.
