A view of the Pennsylvania Railroad station in New York, taken from the vantage of Gimbel's store, places the depot within the bustle of a busy Manhattan retail district. The Pennsylvania Railroad's Manhattan terminal opened in 1910 and served as the city's main gateway for long-distance rail travel until its demolition in the 1960s. Bain News Service, a photo agency active in New York in the early twentieth century, made the glass negative, and the record notes that its title comes from unverified caption data, so the exact date remains uncertain.
