The Pennsylvania Railroad's New York terminal was among the largest building projects in the city, and this 1909 glass negative catches it during construction, before the station opened to passengers in 1910. The railroad's architects, McKim, Mead & White, designed it in the Beaux-Arts style, with a monumental waiting room modeled on classical Roman baths. The negative belongs to the Bain News Service collection, a commercial photo agency that documented New York's streets and buildings in these years. The record notes that its title comes from unverified data, so the exact vantage point is worth confirming.
