A glass negative from the Bain News Service, this view is titled "Sunday arrives" and names a Pennsylvania Railroad station, though the title itself is unverified. The Bain agency, based in New York, photographed news and everyday scenes in the early twentieth century, and railroad terminals were busy places where travelers, porters and crowds gathered at arrival times. The Pennsylvania Railroad ran some of the largest passenger stations in the country, so the weekend setting suggests a record of ordinary travel rather than a single event. Because the date is not recorded, the scene is best read as a window onto how rail travel looked in its era.
