Criccieth Castle sits on a rocky headland above the town of Criccieth on the Llŷn Peninsula, overlooking Cardigan Bay, and the title's "from the parade" likely refers to the seafront promenade where the view was taken. Llywelyn the Great began the castle in the early thirteenth century, and its ruined towers later passed under English royal control. The Detroit Publishing Company issued this photochrom print in its 1905 catalog, part of a series of color views of Welsh landscapes and buildings made in the 1890s and 1900s. Notice how the process renders the sea and sky in soft, layered color.
