The wide panoramic format captures an entire encampment and its formation in a single view, something a standard camera of 1908 could not do in one exposure. Dress parade was the formal daily ceremony at many American army posts, when troops in full uniform lined up for inspection and a review of the day's orders. Photographers made such panoramas for regiments, who bought copies as keepsakes, so the image records both the drill and the layout of the camp. Look closely at the rows of tents and the men standing in ranks to see how the camp was organized.
