Cadets at West Point's summer encampment formed up for dress parade on the Plain, a regular ceremony in which the corps marched in full uniform before officers and visitors. During camp the cadets lived in canvas tents, and the evening review was one of the few public moments when the academy's routine was on view. The picture comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, glass negatives made by the Bain News Service, a New York agency that sold news photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century; the record gives no exact date.
