The Punch Bowl is a hot spring in Yellowstone's geyser country, a deep, brightly colored basin whose water boils and overflows at its rim. This stereograph was issued around 1918 by the Keystone View Company of Meadville, Pennsylvania, one of the largest publishers of stereo views in the United States. Paired images like this one were viewed through a hand-held stereoscope, which gave armchair travelers a sense of depth and made distant landmarks like Yellowstone, the nation's first national park, familiar to households across the country.
