This glass negative shows a figure identified only tentatively as "Ertle" and dressed in a suit made of paper, a novelty garment that drew attention in the years around 1920. The National Photo Company, which worked in Washington, D.C., from the early 1900s through the 1920s, recorded many such curiosities and everyday scenes for newspapers and public use. The record's name is marked as unverified, so the sitter's identity should be treated with caution. Glass negatives of this age often show streaks and small blemishes from the deterioration of their coatings, which can be seen in this example.
