Henry Ludlowe appears here as Edgar Allan Poe in a color lithograph advertising *The Raven*, a 1908 play by George Hazelton that dramatizes the poet's love story. The poster was printed by the U.S. Lithograph Co. for the Russell-Morgan Print firm, with direction credited to Hazelton & North. Theatrical posters like this were printed in quantity to draw audiences to touring productions, and the subject of Poe's private life and daydreaming, as the catalog terms suggest, was a popular theme for the stage in this period. The poem that gave the play its title dates to 1845, four years before Poe's death in 1849.
