Nathaniel Currier's lithograph "Look at Papa" shows a domestic scene of the kind his firm sold widely in the 1840s and 1850s, when the Spruce Street shop was turning out inexpensive hand-colored prints for middle-class American households. The catalog number cited in the record, Conningham 3100, places it among the firm's many family genre subjects, and the subject tags point to a focus on mothers, children, and home life in the decades before the Civil War. A second version, Conningham 3101, differs in its publisher line and carries an added "228" below it, a small detail that helps collectors tell the two states apart. Because the firm's prints were often cut and colored by hand, individual copies vary in tone, so the color is worth looking at closely.
