Few titles on this board are as direct as this one, which puts a plea for affection into the words of a speaker addressing someone named George. Currier & Ives published the lithograph in New York around 1886, when the firm was producing large numbers of comic and sentimental prints for a mass market that bought them cheaply for household walls. Pictures of this kind often played on courtship, marriage, and the everyday friction between men and women, and they were usually drawn to be understood at a glance. The print is listed as number 3228 in the 1983 Gale Research catalog raisonné of the firm's work, the standard reference for tracing its output.
