The record ties this view of South Baltimore to the city's great fire of 1904, which broke out on February 7 and burned for about two days, destroying much of the downtown business district. The title comes from data supplied by the National Photo Company and has not been independently verified, so the link to the fire is best read as the catalog's attribution. The date is also taken from a secondary source rather than from the image itself. Streaks and blemishes on the glass are a known result of deteriorating coatings, and they are worth noticing when studying the negative.
