A romantic musical by Theresa Holburn, *A Hero Is Born* is advertised on this 1936 silkscreen poster, which the Federal theater Project sponsored in New York. The Federal theater Project was part of the Work Projects Administration, and its New York theater unit gave work to unemployed actors, designers and stagehands during the Depression. Its poster shop produced bold, flat-color silkscreens like this one to promote productions around the city. A date stamp on the back reads December 8, 1937, a reminder that the sheet was handled and filed well after it was first printed.
