Colton, California, is the town named in this 1937 poster, which bills a touring vaudeville revue as a "tuneful musical hit" and promises it arrives "direct from Hollywood." The show was sponsored by the Federal theater Project, a branch of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) that employed actors, musicians, and stagehands during the Depression. Its road attractions carried live entertainment to small towns that seldom saw professional theater. The poster's flat, saturated colors reflect silkscreen printing, a method the WPA used because it was inexpensive and fast.
