Workers at the Weser Dockyard raise their arms in salute while Hermann Göring addresses them on February 13, 1935, a moment captured in a print from Göring's own photo album. Göring was then one of the most powerful men in the Nazi government, serving as Reich Aviation Minister as Germany was quietly rebuilding its armed forces in defiance of the Treaty of Versailles. Shipyard workers were central to that effort, so the scene shows the regime staging its message to industrial labor. The picture is useful for studying how public ceremony and mass salutes were used to display loyalty.
