Göring is shown with Hiroshi Ōshima, Japan's ambassador to Germany, at Carinhall, the hunting estate Göring built in the Schorfheide forest near Templin and named for his first wife, Carin. The record dates the picture to March 29, 1941, and an album caption describes a reception there for Japanese Foreign Minister Matsuoka, so the event may be that visit, though the attribution is unverified. Ōshima was a central go-between in the German-Japanese relations that produced the Tripartite Pact of September 1940, and the meeting reflects the diplomacy building toward the alliance. Göring's estate was a showpiece for entertaining foreign guests.
