Dated Monday, March 12, 1770, this issue of the *Boston Gazette, and Country Journal* appeared exactly one week after British soldiers fired into a crowd on King Street, an event colonists called the Boston Massacre. The paper was printed by Benjamin Edes and John Gill, whose weekly was a leading voice of the Patriot cause, and its pages carried the accounts, depositions, and outrage that spread the story through the colonies. Reading it today gives a sense of how a provincial newspaper shaped public opinion in the months before the Revolution.
