Dated Monday, March 12, 1770, this issue of the *Boston Gazette, and Country Journal* appeared one week after British soldiers fired into a crowd on King Street, an event colonists soon called the Boston Massacre. The paper was printed by Benjamin Edes and John Gill, whose weekly was among the most outspoken voices for the Patriot cause before the Revolution. Newspapers like this one shaped how colonists across the colonies understood the confrontation, so the page shows the event as contemporaries first reported and argued it.
