A single printed newspaper page from Monday, March 12, 1770, the Boston Gazette, and Country Journal, dates from one week after the confrontation on King Street that came to be called the Boston Massacre. The Gazette was run by printers Benjamin Edes and John Gill, whose paper voiced colonial opposition to British policy, and its coverage of the shootings and the crowds that followed helped shape how Bostonians and readers across the colonies understood the event. Newspapers like this one were often the main way news traveled between towns, so an issue such as this shows how quickly the story was spreading and how it was being framed.
