The engraving of the Great Seal of Nevada is tied to a single turning point: it was published in the Nevada Senate Journal for 1864-65, the early sessions of a state that joined the Union in October 1864, in the middle of the Civil War. Printing the seal in the official journal put the state's new emblem on the public record during its first legislative years. The date is bracketed and taken from a caption card, so the exact year of this printing is uncertain, but the context of statehood makes it a useful window into how the new government presented itself.
