Amorita is a racing yacht pictured on a glass plate negative dated July 4, 1899, a date that suggests a holiday regatta, when sailing clubs along the eastern seaboard often held races. The notes on the negative point to the Larchmont Yacht Club on Long Island Sound, though the attribution rests on the style of the title and numbering rather than a firm record. The picture belongs to the Detroit Publishing Company collection, a commercial firm that photographed scenes across the United States in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Its large 8 by 10 inch format gives the sailing craft unusual detail for the period.
