This photograph shows Roosevelt reviewing officers of the Persian Gulf Command at Camp Amirabad, a U.S. Army post near Tehran, on December 2, 1943. The visit came just after the Tehran Conference, where he met with Churchill and Stalin. The Persian Gulf Command had been set up in 1942 to move Lend-Lease supplies through Iran to the Soviet Union, and the base was a key link in that supply route. The record also lists jeeps as a subject, a reminder of the vehicles that carried men and materiel across the region.
