A bull cart hauling goods through the streets of Seoul is the subject here, captured in a stereograph that would have been viewed through a hand-held stereoscope. Stereo cards like this one were produced in large numbers in the early twentieth century and sold to American households as a window onto distant places. Around 1904, Korea was a kingdom on the edge of major political upheaval, with Japan and Russia competing for influence over the peninsula, so everyday scenes of ox-drawn transport offer a glimpse of ordinary urban life during those years. The card was issued by Keystone View Company under photographer B.L. Singley's copyright.
