The gold frame that gives this card its name sets it apart from the white-bordered tobacco cards of the same years, and "T205" is the collector's shorthand for the American Tobacco Company's 1911 set. Cards like this were packed with cigarettes, where the stiff cardboard helped protect the packs and gave buyers a reason to collect the full series. Its small portrait of a player, framed in bright gilt, makes it one of the best-known tobacco cards of the 1910s and a useful record of how the game was marketed to adult men during that decade.
