Set apart by its gold border, this card belongs to the T205 series, a tobacco issue that takes its popular name from that frame. The American Tobacco Company issued it in 1911 and packed it with cigarettes, a common practice that made the small cardboard pieces both advertising and something to collect. Library staff devised the title, and the card now belongs to the baseball cards from the Benjamin K. Edwards Collection in the Prints and Photographs Division. It is worth noticing how the photomechanical process turned a portrait into a cheap, mass-produced card that was meant to be kept.
