Titled "Miss Baldwin, a modern witch of Endor," this tall color woodcut borrows its name from the biblical medium of 1 Samuel 28, who summoned the spirit of the prophet Samuel for King Saul. Printed in Hartford around 1870 by the Calhoun printing house, the poster presents its subject as a contemporary seer, a figure that fit the wide popular interest in spiritualism and clairvoyance at the time.
