Printed on fabric rather than paper, this 1860 campaign piece was made to be displayed or carried, a format common among supporters of the Republican ticket that year. It names Abraham Lincoln and his running mate, Hannibal Hamlin, a former U.S. senator from Maine, whose presence on the ticket broadened its appeal in New England. The record credits the lithograph to H.C. Howard of Philadelphia, a firm active in the period. Lincoln won the election that November without carrying any Southern states, and campaign goods like this helped put the candidates' names in front of voters far from the newspapers.
