Few campaign textiles from 1860 name the running mate as plainly as this cotton print, which pairs Abraham Lincoln for President with Hannibal Hamlin for Vice President. Printed in color on a large sheet of cloth, it belongs to the wave of election-year banners and flags that carried candidates' names into parlors, parades and rallies. The Republican ticket was chosen at the party's Chicago convention in May, and the imprint of H. C. Howard of Philadelphia shows how such goods were made and sold in the months before the November vote.
