Unlike the many Lincoln pictures on this board, this one records the New York leg of the funeral, held on April 25, 1865, six days after the president's death in Washington. His body had been carried north by train, and New Yorkers turned out in large numbers to see the cortege and to pay respects at City Hall, where the casket lay in state. The print was issued by E. & H.T. Anthony & Co., a New York firm long associated with photographic views and prints, and its title suggests the scene was widely sold as a memorial keepsake.
