Albany's State Capitol, which houses New York's state government, sits on a hill above the city and is one of the best-known Romanesque Revival buildings in the country. Construction began in 1867 and dragged on for decades, with the building not finished until 1899 and its cost far above early estimates. Henry Hobson Richardson produced the original design before his death in 1886, and other architects carried the work forward. This view, dated about 1915, was registered for copyright by Fellowcrafts' Photo Shop of Albany and shows the building more than a decade after it was completed.
