The poster leads with a star: its caption calls Richard J. Jose "America's greatest singer," and the title bills him alongside Wm. H. West's Big Minstrel Jubilee. The parenthetical "formerly of Primrose & West" points to West's earlier association with the well-known Primrose & West company. The Strobridge Lithographing Company of Cincinnati and New York printed the sheet in color, one of many theatrical posters the firm made for touring shows. Minstrel troupes of this period drew crowds with music, comic routines and novelty acts, and their posters now offer a vivid view of popular entertainment in 1898.
