The steamer Mobjack, a vessel of the Old Dominion Line, appears in this 8 x 10 inch glass negative, dated somewhere between 1900 and 1910. The record places it possibly at Rockaway Beach, New York. The Old Dominion Line ran passenger and freight steamers along the Atlantic coast, and ships like the Mobjack were a familiar sight on busy eastern waterfronts of that period. The plate comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, which photographed American scenery, cities and transportation for commercial sale, and it reached the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
