Hides were pulled taut on frames and left to dry in lofts like this one, a stage of leather making that most buyers of the finished goods never saw. This 1915 stereoview comes from a leather series issued by Underwood & Underwood, the firm best known for paired cards meant to be viewed through a stereoscope. The leather produced in such plants went into shoes, harness, gloves, and other everyday goods. The series and copyright numbers on the record suggest the card was one of a larger set documenting the trade.
