The Forman Shaft was a joint shaft serving three neighboring operations, the Overman, Belcher and Crown Point mining companies, at Gold Hill on the Comstock Lode in Nevada. Sharing one shaft among adjoining claims was a practical response to the cost of deep mining, since a single hoisting structure could move ore, men and water for several companies. The shaft was engraved for an 1881 publication on Nevada, which places it among the views that documented the state's silver and gold mining towns during their peak years.
